I have seen different ideas about disturbing the roots of plants when removing them from pots and putting them into the ground. I think you should tease out the roots a bit. What do other people think or do?

I like to tease out the roots a bit, particularly if they have started to grow in a circular fashion around the pot. If there is plenty of soil in the pot still and the roots aren’t really clogging up the pot, it probably doesn’t matter. But I tend towards teasing them out a bit.

Unless there is a lot of soil in the pot and the main roots are not really visible around the edges, I always tease out the roots. I think this gives the plant a better chance and encourages the roots to move into the surrounding soil.
